What we do to keep the lake — and this website — open to everyone.

Our commitment

Accessibility does not stop at the jetty

This business exists because we believe Lake Kerkini should be open to everyone. It would be contradictory for that to be true of our boat but not of our website.

The boat

  • Level deck and boarding ramp — no steps.
  • Room for 8 to 10 wheelchairs at a time, together with their companions.
  • Passengers stay in their own wheelchair for the whole trip.
  • Wheelchair restraint system and life jackets in every size.
  • Commentary in Greek Sign Language, arranged when booking.
  • Crew trained to assist passengers with disabilities.

The apartment

Kerkini’s Harmony House is a traditional village house and is not fully wheelchair accessible. We say so openly, because a vague answer costs somebody a wasted journey. Call us and we will describe exactly what is there — door widths, steps, the bathroom layout — so you can decide on real information.

This website

This site was built to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. Specifically:

  • All text has been checked for a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 (3:1 for large text and user-interface components).
  • The entire site can be operated by keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator on every element.
  • Every page has a skip link to the main content.
  • Semantic HTML is used throughout, with a correct heading hierarchy and landmark regions.
  • Every informative image has alternative text; decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Touch targets are at least 44 × 44 pixels.
  • Motion and animation switch off automatically when your operating system requests reduced motion.
  • Content stays readable at up to 200% zoom without horizontal scrolling.

What is not yet perfect

The embedded map on the contact page comes from a third party (OpenStreetMap) and we do not fully control its accessibility. For that reason the address and travel directions are always given as text as well, so the map is never required.
