Five drives worth making
All of them start from Kerkini village and fit comfortably into one day.
- Lithotopos dam — where the lake was born in 1932, with a panoramic view across the whole wetland.
- Mandraki — the best-known spot for pelicans and for sunsets over the water.
- Ano Poroia — a mountain village on the slopes of Belles, with plane trees, running water and a view down to the lake.
- Rodopoli & Vyroneia — the southern shore villages, with buffalo in the lanes and small tavernas.
- Serres — the town itself, for the market and the Byzantine castle, with the Alistrati cave a little further on.
